Enhancing Digital Fashion Retail through Sensory Engagement

User Experience · Prototyping · Design · Technology · Market Engagement

Allegra Giardinia Mantellassi

The challenge was to address the gap between physical and online shopping in fashion, where consumers often miss out on tactile and human experiences. The goal was to create a prototype that merges digital convenience with personalized in-store interactions, measured by how effectively it could replicate trust, guidance, and sensory-rich engagement in an e-commerce setting.

This project was designed for fashion e-commerce platforms and retail consumers seeking immersive, human-centered digital shopping experiences.

My process began with research into consumer frustrations with online shopping, including surveys and stakeholder interviews across textiles, UX, psychology, and retail. I mapped user and assistant journeys, developed wireframes, and iterated prototypes that mimicked a Zoom-like experience embedded in an e-commerce site. A key insight was how much consumers valued trust and emotional reassurance from a human assistant during their buying process.

The project resulted in a functional prototype tested by eight stakeholders from diverse industries. Feedback highlighted that the “Try Now” feature increased confidence in purchasing decisions and created a sense of human connection missing in online retail. Though still conceptual, the project validated the potential of hybrid e-commerce models and refined my skills in service design, storytelling, and user-centered research.
